There is no better time to take a drive through Northern Virginia than now, before the winter temperatures and weather arrive! Virginia is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, and our homes and communities at Christopher Companies are located in or near several of them. If you’re looking to see more of Northern Virginia or just want a relaxing weekend activity, try taking a drive on one of these scenic routes:
Fall in Fairfax County
Wind your way down the GW Parkway amidst the foliage and Potomac River for excellent fall sights. End your drive at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate, which is sure to be beautiful in all the colors of the season.
Great Falls Park
Further up the GW Parkway and along Georgetown Pike you’ll come across one of Northern Virginia’s hidden treasures: Great Falls! If the name doesn’t give it away, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather Gorge. There are several lookout points along the way, so make sure to stop and take some pictures.
Northern Virginia Horse/Wine Country
If you want to drive a little further, head on out to Loudoun County. Home to several horse farms and wineries, a drive down James Monroe Highway will wind you through rolling farmland. If you find yourself stopping at one of said wineries, even better!
Manassas National Battlefield
Virginia is full of historical sites and parks, and Manassas National Battlefield Park is one of the best! Take a drive down Route 66 and drive through the battlefields of Manassas. If you’re a history lover, take time to stop at some of the park’s landmarks and learn about the battles of Manassas.
Shenandoah National Park
Make a weekend out of it and drive out to Shenandoah National Park! Located far outside the Beltway and the 95 corridor, Shenandoah is a nature lovers dream. From rolling hills and valleys to beautiful farms, it’s one of the most picturesque scenes in the state.
